"Supporting you on your life journey"
I have been a therapist since 2007 and received my B.A. in Psychology from California State University of Northridge and my Masters in Educational Psychology and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University. My goal as a therapist is to help you better navigate your life difficulties so as to return to your daily responsibilities with a sense of peace and contentment. I am passionate about the work that I perform with my clients.
In my journey as a therapist, I have worked at different counseling settings, such as university counseling centers and community counseling centers. I have a strong belief in the power of community, family, and friends and understand that this sometimes can be the strongest network of support in an individual’s life. My therapeutic treatment is culturally sensitive, taking into consideration your cultural background, ethnicity, economic status and roles played in daily life with your family of origin and chosen family.
I believe my knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural issues is evident in every aspect of my personal and professional life, and is central to my effectiveness as a clinician. Women’s issues, social advocacy, and multiculturalism are essential components of my identity as a therapist. I work diligently to create a strong therapeutic alliance/connection with my clients as I thoroughly understand the difficulties of putting one’s trust in the hands of a therapist who is not yet part of your supportive network and know that change takes place only when such trust is established.
I specialize in individual, couples, and group therapy. I have experience in working with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, sexual orientation/gender identity, trauma and abuse, grief and loss, body image, and relationship difficulties.
While our focus in therapy will involve understanding your presenting problems, I also acknowledge the importance of recognizing your resiliency and strengths in dealing with adversity in your life. I work from a cognitive behavioral foundation, but consistently rely on theories such as Interpersonal, Relational Cultural, Attachment, Feminist, and Object Relations to meet my clients where they are in their own journey to greater self-awareness. Through the process of our work together, you will find a very supportive, open, flexible, and warm environment to begin exploring your difficulties. My main objective in therapy is to help my clients reconnect with themselves, heal from the pain, and achieve balance and contentment.
